Off the topic for a second…

Thank You Vin Parise for visiting or school and talking at our newspaper meeting. I liked hearing about what goes into broadcasting sports for Iona, about the microphones, and how many people you work with every day. Your words were encouraging and I hope to work in media one day.

Boa

Boa Constrictor

Boa constrictors are also called red tailed boas. Boa constrictors are non-poisonous. Instead it uses its powerful body to suffocate its prey. Boa constrictors are from South and Central America, from northwestern Mexico to northern Argentina. They eat lizards and other vertebrates. Cobras

Cobras are one of the most known snakes in the world.The most famous cobra is (you probably know this) the king cobra. All cobras are Elapidaes. That means they use venom to kill. The Mozambique spitting cobra is a dangerous species that lives around houses and farms at night in search for small animals, such as lizards and mice. It can spit deadly venom into your eye. Fornasini’s spiny reed frog, Madagascar reed frog and the Midwife toad

Fornasini’s reed frogs are also known as leaf-folding frogs or banana frogs. They live in reeds or tall grasses.

The Madagascar reed frog is the most common reed frog in Madagascar. The Madagascar reed frog likes to live in places with human activity, such as…..gardens, parks and backyards.

The Midwife toad is also known as the bell toad. It is fairly smooth for a toad. It can be orange, pinkish, or yellow.

Biggest and smallest frog

The biggest frog is the Goliath frog of Africa. It is as heavy as a newborn baby. One of the smallest, the Gold frog of South America,  could sit on the nail of you’re little finger. Another one of the biggest is the African bullfrog. A full grown female can weigh 3 pounds. No matter what, female frogs will always be bigger than males.

Crocodilians

The top five most dangerous crocodilians are

1. the Saltwater crocodile

2. the Nile crocodile

3. the American alligator

4. the Black caiman

5. the Mugger crocodile

Male saltwater crocodiles can grow up to 16 feet (5m). The saltwater crocodile is the longest crocodilian.  Gators eat mainly swans and other birds. Their are also a couple of animals that eat crocodilians such as the Burmese python and the Anaconda.

Anoles

Anoles are lizards that live in tropical areas around the world. That is because anoles include all chameleons and most gliding lizards such as the flying lizard.The lizards ” wings ” unfold allowing the flying lizard to glide over short distances. The green anole is the most popular anole. Male anoles have a large pink throat. The Jackson’s chameleon is the most popular chameleon.

Green Iguana

Green Iguanas start their lives as six inch hatchlings and can grow to be six feet. If threatened by a predator and gets bitten on the tail, they could let go of their tail. No worries! A new tail will grow back. Their skin color is green to blend into the rainforest. In the rainforest they can live to be 20 years old. In captivity ( pet care ) they can live to be 25 years old. Their
food is lettuce. Baby iguanas skin color is light green. One type of iguana is red!

Ball Python and Red-tailed Boa

Ball pythons are named after their habit of curling up into a ball with their heads tucked in the middle. Ball pythons are constrictors which means they choke their prey to death. The red tailed boa is also a constrictor. Its name comes from its tail. Its red! It also has a rectangular head. Its prey is mainly birds and mice. The ball python’s main prey is lizards.
